We the Mutes!!!

H.O.D: There is a CNN IBN debate with Ms. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi today at your college premises....Who are all interested, ma?

As always, my hand, Asha's hand a few other not-so-usual hands went up

H.O.D: Is that all, ma?

WE: (Silence)

H.O.D: It is at 4 today evening so please stay back...(Lookin at me) Come here ma, take this number down and get in touch with her ( a reporter from the bureau, who was also our super senior) abt the proceedings.

ME: Okay, ma'am.

After takin down the number, I go to the department room to return the envelope on which she had so hastily scrawled down the number...and ended up with work even on my LASTTTTTTTTT day in college, thus:

H.O.D: Please ask if anyone is interested from your first and second year classes too ma! (Looking all suitably smug) Im thinking of using this to bargain and land them internships...

ME: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

H.O.D: Yes ma..? You have any questions abt the integrity of your HOD and her commitment towards her students?

ME: No, Ma'am!!!!!

About turn: exit room

With none of the juniors falling prey for her silly internship bait...a bunch of us from class landed up in college at 4....for the all important DEBATE. Excited at seeing the crew and Mr. Veeraraghav (Bureau Chief) all already there, we ran to the canteen...we had already decided on our questions...(Me and Vipasha even had a small jig planned ;p)

Looking into the grimy canteen mirror I adjusted my greasy greasy hair....called dad and sister to tell them the all important news (smirk smirk :|) It was finally time to leave...and join the crowd of youngsters from other colleges who had been invited over to our college for the same debate...Ms. Kanimozhi was also there....

That was when it happened: We had been misinformed by Vaiju a.k.a. HOD abt the debate topic...and it was actually on Reservation Politics, when we had been told it ws to be on general politics in Tamil Nadu!!!!!!!!!!!

With all our pre-prepared questions gone with the wind, and our jig forgotten, we rearranged ourselves several times and finally settled down...the show began...

Though there were several times when we had valid points to make, we were never given a chance, thanks to all the mic hogging by the Loyola guys and of course, Vicky nonchalantly ignoring our perenially raised hands (purposely?) And there were other times when Vcky would just beat us in making the very same point one of us had in mind...:|

And tada, the show came to an end too!!! And, we hadnt spoken a word...Pat on the bak, I say. :|

After the shooting was over, Vicky n his usual couldnt care less attitude and tone, told us he was "Sorry that we hadnt gotten a chance to talk". DUH.

ME: Oh, that's so completely okay...we had such fun being your mute spectators. :|||
